Butler Academy Voted ‘Best Charter School’

Post & Courier Pee Dee Hosts First Readers’ Choice Award Reception

Butler Academy has been voted Best Charter School by readers of the Florence-based newspaper, the Post & Courier Pee Dee

“In a season during which we naturally turn our thoughts to thankfulness, we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that our neighbors are pouring on the Butler Academy family,” said Butler Academy President and Co-Founder Dr. Jerome Reyes.

“This month’s recognition as the Best Charter School by Post and Courier Pee Dee readers confirms the value that we bring to the region and, more importantly, the difference we are making in the lives of each of our scholars,” Reyes added.

“When we decided to bring a charter school to our area, we did so because our community needed additional education choices. So, now, when readers applaud our school – our approach to whole-child education, to meeting the social and emotional needs of our scholars so that they can be positioned and expected to achieve academically – the difficult work we do every day, starts to feel a whole lot easier. To say ‘thank you’ isn’t enough. We are humbled!”

With a 2023-24 enrollment of 351 in grades K-7, Butler Academy’s scholars reside in eight counties – Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion, Marlboro, Richland and Sumter. The school will add one grade each year until it has complete lower, middle and high schools serving 600 scholars.

The Post and Courier Pee Dee held its Readers’ Choice Award reception on Nov. 15 at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center.  Vice Chair of the Butler Academy Board of Trustees Jon Shannon, accepted the award on behalf of the school.

Also, on Nov. 15, more than 400 community members and 15 local organizations joined the Butler Academy family in celebrating a first of its own–a National Philanthropy Day Taste of Giving event in Hartsville to thank each donor who has supported the school since its founding in 2020.
