Extended Day

At BA, a Longer Day Means More Time to Learn

An essential part of the school day for many BA scholars, our Extended Day Program (XDP) picks up where the traditional school day ends, offering enrichment activities and an opportunity to catch up or get ahead in any particular subject.

Scholars participate in QUEST, or Quality Uninterrupted Enforced Study Time, following a quick recess and snacks. High school students from the nearby Governor’s School for Science and Math help our scholars complete their homework, including additional time reading with our youngest scholars.

After QUEST, daily courses, called “Passion Projects” provide exposure to courses like music, theater, art and dance thanks to a partnership with nearby Coker University, as well as Tennis lessons thanks to a partnership with the Ron James Youth Tennis Program. Scholars benefit from new experiences and meet positive role models with a collection of interesting talents. Passion projects are based on staffing, the offerings can vary from quarter to quarter.

Schedule

4-6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
3-6 p.m. Wednesday
* Please note there is no XDP on any of the half days throughout the school year (see Academic Calendar).

Daily Itinerary

(XDP Scholars remain with their teachers until XDP Starts)
4:00 – 4:25 recess (Snack Provided)
4:30 – 4:55 QUEST (Quality Uninterrupted Enforced Study Time)
5:00 – 5:50 Passion Project
5:50 – 6:00 Dismissal

XDP Begins Monday, August 7, 2023 and is scheduled to end on Friday, May 24, 2024. This is due to the fact that our instructors are no longer available after that time. If we are able to schedule help to last through the end of the school year, we will certainly continue it until June 6 (the last full day of school). June 7 is a half-day. We will let our families know in early May what the last day will be.

Pick-up times: ONLY before 5 pm or between 5:50 and 6:00 pm. Our instructors come to us through partnerships in the community. In order to honor their time and protect the learning that is taking place, we are not able to accommodate pick ups during Passion Projects (5–5:50 pm). Thank you for understanding.
